Butterfly Daffodil

Butterfly Daffodil
Most of the daffodils in my garden are now over, except for this one, in a shaded corner...and there is just one of them! I think it is a butterfly daffodil, but I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong.

Cämmerer zu Nau, Ernest CH, Istvan Farkas, Annemarie and 28 other people have particularly liked this photo

There are so many varieties Adele. I don't know where this beauty came from, but I am very pleased to see it. Just to let you know that my daughter had a wonderful birthday in the garden with her husband making an Italian meal and Sophie making afternoon cream tea! I sent everyone's good wishes to her and she was delighted and grateful :-)
Keep safe and healthy dear Adele. Happy Easter to you and your loved ones.

Amelia will know, I was reading somewhere that there is an app that will allow your mobile to identify plants and flowers. Say hello to the horses from me :)

I am hoping she will drop by Nick :-) I'll have to find that app! I took a few shots of the horses in the field this morning, in the misty atmosphere...I will say hello for you.
Take care and have a good Easter Sunday.

It is gorgeous with a great big beautiful trumpet. I can't tell you what it is I'm afraid. My garden is full of daffodils that I can't name. Your daughter's birthday sounds lovely. I hope you both had a good day even if you couldn't be together.

Thank you very much Jean. There are so many varieties of daffodil, I never realised!!
Lyndsay's husband and daughter spoilt her to bits....just wish I could have been there and tasted Sophie's scones ;-))

I just had a quick Google and I think you've nailed the ID. The are lots of different variations but this seems to be an Orangery Butterfly Daffodil.............and it's an absolute stunner. I've never seen one before!

Beautifully captured in fantastic detail and colour!

Glad you hear your daughter enjoyed her birthday with her family..!!

I didn't realise there were quite so many varieties Keith. Seems like it is the Batterfly Daff then. I don't know where it came from and there is just the one. It's a lovely surprise though :-)

Yes, Lyndsay had a great day, which she deserved. Thank you so much for all your kind comments. Hope you're enjoying the Easter weather! Take care.

A butterfly daffodil is the generic term for this type of flower which has a split corona/ trumpet. They look sort of semi-double, or even very double in some cases. They are certainly not my favourite as the breeders have gone too far in my opinion. I prefer what I tend to think of as Wordsworth daffodils, the wilder species form called narcissus pseudonarcissus. This one does have the advantage of flowering later though. ;-)

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Amelia club
Thank you for the information Amelia. I didn't plant this bulb and have no idea where it came from but nice that it's a later flowering one....even though it is just one! I have to agree with you about the Wordsworth daffodils, real beauties :)

Thank you very much. The daffodils are over now except for this one, but the pansies are coming on nicely now. I am very grateful at this time to have a garden, unlike so many.

It does look spectacular with the orangey yellow! If you didn't plant it then maybe some animal brought it in, blackbirds rather love digging out bulbs;-)
