Gentle Street ~ Frome
Gentle Street is a narrow and historic street, with many houses dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. Paved in its entirety with stone setts and once a major entry, it goes back to the origins of Frome in the 7th century. Mediaeval men called it Hunger Lane because of its steepness. It was the main High Street but later the Gentle family gave their name to it. London coaches left from the Waggon & Horses Inn, which is now a private dwelling, shown here on the left.

Two terrific images and I enjoyed your notes that, together with your pictures, conjure up my own images of the romance of the days of the old coaching inns.
Have a great weekend
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Ecobird clubWishing you a great week too.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Ulrich John clubA well composed image with lovely detail.............I especially like the colour of the stonework of the houses and those lovely cobblestones. Is that a drainage ditch running down the road or a filled in leat? I also like the greenery (and I see there's someone there doing some gardening).
A very nice PiP too.......with a beautiful street lamp.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton clubI think it's a drain rather than a leat running down the middle of the street. I bet you wanted to use that new word again ;-)) Obviously the spell checker has never heard of it as it keeps underlining it!
We had a chat o the man gardening...he was trying to pull out very deep rooted weeds :-)
Thank you for your kind comments Keith. Have a nice week.
Keith Burton club has replied to Rosalyn Hilborne clubI think the spell-checker on here is more oriented towards US spellings.
