1769 Thera britannica (Spruce Carpet)
Geometridae, Larentiinae - Wingspan: 26-34mm.
This small "Carpet" is a common species throughout the UK, occurring where-ever Pine Trees are. A similar species to 1768 the Grey Pine Carpet, but has the outer edge of the cross-wing band much more lobed, and the band is also outlined in white. The posterior part of the band can appear to be made up from separate lobes. A broad dark line can follow the inner edge, making the band look wider than a Grey Pine Carpet. Additionally there is a white waved line just inside the outer edge of the fore-wings.
Another widespread species in Cornwall, having a very broad flight season made up from at least two generations through the year. It can generally be seen from March to November, with odd records occurring in February and December. The generations peak in May and October.
