1789 Rheumaptera undulata (Scallop Shell)

1789 Rheumaptera undulata (Scallop Shell)
Geometridae, Larentiinae - Wingspan: 32-38mm.

A widespread, but local species more likely to be seen in the south of the UK. The distinctive pattern of wavy lines across all wings make it easy to identify, and when freshly emerged is quite beautiful. The illustration here is slightly worn, but the best I have at present.

The flight season in Cornwall occurs from June to August, peaking in July, but generally only single specimens are seen at any time.
