Preserved former Ribble 1686 (NRN 586) in Morecambe - 25 May 2019 (P1020277)
Saturday 25 May 2019 – Preserved NRN 586, an MCW bodied Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 that was new to Ribble Motor Services as their 1686 in October 1960. It was seen outside the Stagecoach North West garage at Morecambe having arrived on a shuttle from Lancaster bus station as part of the garage open day event. This event, and the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust 'Morecambe Vintage Bus Day' held the next day, were to celebrate 100 years of Ribble Motor Services.

The Atlantean was perhaps one of the most revolutionary designs. The rear engine layout paved the way for the buses we know almost 60 years later. As a schoolboy when these buses were delivered to Ribble they were the epitome of modernity to a impressionable ten year old bus enthusiast! I was successful in securing a ride from Lancaster - just had to.
