A Crowden adventure

A Crowden adventure
About 14 miles (22Km) from my home lies a very beautiful valley that starts of with a bit of woodland. On this rare blue sky day we thus make a beeline for it as a place we have not wandered for over a year now. I share a moment with you here just as the path turns downwards towards the river. Of course, once again its the golden leaves of Autumn with this light that is my main attraction. Spot the nesting-box.

Enjoy full screen.

The sun peeking through made the shot for me too Erhard. As with lots of this type of scene, a contre-jour approach works wonders. Delighted that you enjoyed it. ~ Herb

Hi Steve. An awful long way from your scrub-land scenes over there in Western Australia. We have to have some reward for our mostly miserable weather system here. Of course, delighted that you like this so much. And...one day you may get the chance for such scenes again.

The light and dappled shadows are just wonderful............I especially like the sunburst. I love the dark tree trunks and branches and the contrasting golden brown and yellow leaves. The dying bracken and grasses in the foreground are also lovely. A super wall and gate too.

..............and yes, I found the nesting box, although I had to look for at at your largest available size.

HaHa, another scene to tickle you my friend. You observations of the scene mirror my own take on it too. It was a choice of this or my closer alternative of the gate area and lane and you can see which won. Good that you found the nest-box, which I had completely missed when out there for real.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....*falls over, floats away*....LOOOOOOK AT THAT LIGHT!!! The COLORS!!! THE RICH DETAILS! Seriously, this is a total musuem piece to be long-appreciated with many sighs of satisfaction.

Herb, this is such an outstanding image...it's just GREAT. Lovely balance, dappled light, the wonderful gate as another focal point...and I see the nest box too! :) You are such a talent and what fun to see your latest inspiration! :)

Thanks for the return visit to my pictures and the long comment! I'm really tickled that you spent the time to read my ramblings...I do go on! :D Glad you found it worth the effort. Loved what you had to say. Wow, you spent 18+ years using your travel trailer?! That's so awesome! Steve and I only just began our RV experience...we could afford to get our first one and then Steve could retire and finally we could devote time to this dream of ours to travel around the country in an RV. It took a lot of stars lining up but we took to it like ducks to water. Plenty of problems along the way across the board--including learning how to get along sometimes--and our first trailer actually suffered a catastrophic frame failure only a couple of weeks into our 5-week Vancouver Island trip. Not sure if you knew about that but that specter colored the rest of the trip negatively even though we got it fixed enough to complete our trip. Ended up getting the opportunity to trade in our last trailer towards the price of our new one and it was the perfect move. Our 365MB Avalanche is a monster for sure but if we really do want to swap our house for a full-time RV, it's the perfect choice.

I was totally on the same page as you regarding how stressful your 17ft trailer was going down long hills. Yeah, it's a total white-knuckler the moment you question your brakes and then you can't get that out of your head. We didn't have issues braking with our Grey Wolf but as time went on, we began to feel concern about the long view of things. Stepping up to a much heavier vehicle definitely meant an upgrade for the truck to do it right. You just cannot fool around with brakes and safety. Doesn't matter how big or small the rig, you must feel confidence!

Thanks too for your info about the beauty of the terrain in your neck of the woods and how it differs. Really sounds lovely and we hope to spend some time in the British Isles in a small caravan at some point and explore for some months. An adventure for down the road as we need to sort out what to do with our darling parrot. We meant to bring her to Canada with us on our big trip but at the last moment we learned that there was no way she'd be allowed in, no matter all the time and effort we put into getting documentation for her. Being without her for 6 weeks was HORRIBLE. In the end she was fine and had a great time while we were gone but we really missed her.

Also interesting to read about your busier roads--makes sense given the density of population. It really depends around here. Some places are very busy--national parks like Yellowstone are a perfect example. But you're right, the traffic in rural areas isn't really a thing for the most part.

Can I also inquire here, you say: 'Explored on 11/09/19; highest placement #1' - I presume you mean it was on the Ipernity Explore 'slide-show' but where or how did you get that #1 placement?
When you click on the "Explore" link at the top of the page, it brings you to the place where you see the slide show, but below the current picture information you'll see the words, "Among the photos recently added and that are popular..." Click on that and it will bring you to the Explore section and this is where you can see the actual order of picture based on popularity. If you come back to visit once in a while, you'll see the pictures moving around in rank. Also, contrary to the past, you may have only one of your pictures showing up on Explore at a time. Anyway, it's fun to keep track and see how an image does. :)

Thanks again for braving the waters of my endless wave of words! :)

Blumin heck Janet, how do I answer such a piece as this, your comment.
First of all let me express my happiness that both you and Steve liked this so much. I have always stridden to capture light and I find that most beautiful in contre-jour forest scenes like this. Yesterday, when taking this, the whole thing came together.
I have to admit, that often I am put off by a lengthy description (and comment) that when I do take the trouble to read them completely I am most often very pleased that I did. My heartfelt comment after reading about your adventures touched a chord. I see now that you was holidaying on Vancouver Island. We have taken a trip to the Canadian Rockies with Vancouver too but did not get to the Island.
Thanks too for your answer to my question re Explorer. I had seen the additional pages of Explore but have never seen my own pictures there, no mater how popular I imagine them to be. Thanks for explaining the popularity rating hierarchy for me.
I look forward to reading more from you. ~ My Best Wishes, Herb

Another of our photos to share admiration Toz. A great place to explore here if you have not been. A fine walk up to the tunnels at the head of the Woodhead reservoir is a must too. (a carpark -big enough for a motorhome sits at the far end of the dam wall road. For this walk, a free sizable carpark is just next to the C&C club site.)
Hope you had a good walk around Dovestones with naturally, a good haul of photos.

You HONOUR me Maurice. A great place for sure but to be honest, not that much 'woods' walking, more open moorland scenery just a few hundred yards away from here. The line of reservoirs just across the main road, with their paths, provide massive walking experiences too.

Great to see this familiar scene through someone else’s camera. Yes its a good spot for nesting birds in Spring but many of the boxes are designed for bats.

Thanks for this Colin. I should have known that you would be familiar with the area. I had not noticed the nesting box as I was snapping but I had not heard of nesting boxes for bats before. I will try to search out the area in your mammoth collection here.

Hi, Herb. Other people have already said it all about this wonderful shot. My personal two bits addition to that is that the shadows of the convoluted branches also help to add another interesting layer to this photo!

Nice to see you again Annalia. Yes lighting is king here and certainly the shapes and shadows of these trees do a lot to enhance that. Lots of layers to scenes like this indeed.
