A Winters tree

A Winters tree
This tree has history! It was the one that led me on to the path of photography as I won my first photographic competition with a similar shot in Winter around 47 years ago. - Its by Dovestones reservoir in Greenfield which is about 5 miles from my home.

Inspired to post it here after comments to the adjacent mist scene.
Enjoy full screen

Lovely take Herb, you've been at it about 7 years longer than me -I feel very old.

Hi Richard -yes time marches on. Little did I know at the time how many photos that competition would lead me on to taking. At least you are obviously younger than me so no reason to feel old :)

Trees and light! My favorite subject. Still chasing after the perfect version. This one is lovely, especially against the light snow cover on the grass.

Nice to see you Sarah. Yes those two subjects come at the top of my photographic tree too. I have a few more nice shots of this tree done through the years so might post some more in time. It is a spot now that I often see memorial flowers left on the nearby bench as it was some else's favourite tree too. I do enjoy, like you Contre Jour photography.

Well, you've been taking photos much longer than I have........I didn't start taking photography seriously until around 1998!

Anyway...................I really like this one. Lone trees with a nice shape are not easy to find, but seem to have cracked it. I love the back-lighting, especially the little sunburst coming through the branches.

The tree sits nicely on the diagonal and I like the long shadows it's projecting. Exceptional work Herb!

You are still a youngster Keith! A favourite tree from the start, when it was far smaller than it is now. I went for quite a number of years searching such trees out whilst away with our touring caravan. As we were invariably in the countryside it was fairly easy to spot a few. - Angles, p.o.v, lines and curves added to light is what our hobby is about my friend and we all see them differently but fortunately for me -you see them nearly the same as me. Very glad you liked yest another of my photos.

Yes I far prefer it without the mist Herb and congratulations on wining your first photo comp with a similar image

Thanks Nick. Yep, we all have our personal preferences. I like them both - so differently captured here. The comp was the first comp in a local camera club that I had joined only a few days before I took this after being informed that there was to be a slide competition of 'The lone Tree' in another few weeks. I was successful but only in the Novice section mind! I had only had my first real camera ( a Zorki 4) for a few weeks when I went for this and I think it was only on my second box of Kodakrome slides. Memories.....

I also love those lonely trees, in any kind of weather.

You are so right. This tree is wonderful in all weathers. There has been a natural carved wooden bench near it now for some years so that people can sit and relax and enjoy the view over the water from here. Glad that you enjoyed it.

Best Wishes my friend. Herb

The slope and solitary tree are just perfect in any weather! I like how you have framed the sun and the shadows cast by the branches. The mood is totally different, it's a beautiful photo which I like very much but the misty one is my absolute favourite:-)

Thanks so much Gudrun. A beautiful tree does it for me every time. Here I tried to hide the bright sun a little and it made a nice point of attention. I like them both really. Glad that you at least liked looked at them both and chose a favorite.

Two superb pictures Herb. I was pleased to see it was taken in November a while ago, as I was worried you'd had an April snow storm!! Cheers, Rosa.

Thanks Rosa. I do the same thing when I see newly posted photos in uncharacteristic weather for the time. Yes this was only posted to show a comparison between the two seasons and photographic styles. Like you we have hot April sun at the moment but unfortunately a very bad cold does not let me get the most of that. Typical!
