Second of three images showing repairs to a structural upright, methodology is to retain the maximum original material. The outer surface was in fairly poor condition from largely impact damage, so a thin layer was machined away and a replacement layer glued in position and trimmed to fit. Note: the replica roof stick above has been laminated - greater strength and more economical use of timber - the surface profile will be machined before it is jointed into the cant rail.

One of three images showing repairs to a structural upright, methodology is to retain the maximum original material. Stage one is to replace the tenons or the area holding the mortices ie the joints, using suitable piece of Oak, to match the existing original timber.

Another set of sawdust layers collected by the dust extraction system. Timber species include:- oak, ash, sapele, cherry, douglas fir and iroko.

MF - new cabin roof

The replacement inner skin (oak planks) and sapele roof sticks have just been fitted, they will now be varnished.

BC - bodywork

Dry fit of the majority of the body framework. The laminated roof sticks are not yet cut to length. The darker timber sections are original, the slightly lighter colour is the new oak.

WR - Rudder 1

A replacement rudder was made by laminating oak sections, and then cutting out the required shape. This process was used to try to eliminate warping. So far, it has worked!
