Ventimiglia/Vintimille is where the French/Italian border blurs especially in these days of freedom of movement within (most of) the EU. French trains are as common as Italian examples with regular services leaving for the neighbouring country. The Italian services tend to be locomotive powered (push/pull with driving trailers) and the French TER services operated by multiple units. Here, Class Z 26500 TER Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur unit no. 405 stands at platform 3.

To complement my earlier photographs from Ventimiglia, I visited Nice-Ville. France was in the grip of (another) national strike but SNCF had guaranteed a modified service. However, several units were standing idle at what, I imagine, would normally have been a much busier scene. On the left, is a Class Z 26500 unit and on the right a Class Z 23500. The graffiti are obvious and a closer inspection of units reveals tired interiors with dusty looking and worn seats. On some cars, there is evidence of damage to paintwork caused, it appears, by attempts to remove graffiti. Nice-Ville is in a pretty dramatic urban setting which provides a marked contrast with the train shed. I took two similar shots but could not decide between them and have posted both.
