Great that these have been preserved. Several of the trade names are still current, but at a guess I'd put these at the late 1950s.

Well that was a bit of fun, as mentioned above several of the trade names are still in use, but I'm putting them as early fifties. That Morris car might be the best indicator of date, I cannot see from the detail what model it is, someone will know. Could be a Morris Minor.

I wish I could have got a sharper picture Nick, but I can just make out the date on the two Picture Post front covers and they are both 1954 and 4d in old money!! You can hardly get a magazine under £5 now! Unfortunately I can't make out the writing on the Morris advert.

Well David Slater has found you clear copies of the two Post front covers to confirm your two 1954 dates and for the benefit of all of us who the people were. Joan Collins looks distinctively misshapen. The price of 4d for a copy of the magazine seems positively cheap. The image of the window is now in your safe hands.

The car is most likely to be a Morris Minor 1000. All the best ~~~ Nick

Yes didn't he do well Nick! I think underwear has changed over the years, thank goodness....Joan is very young in that picture, but to be on the front page, she must have been well known back then. I will have to find out what happens to the window. It may have already disappeared!

The old adverts are a joy, so different from today. I love the window and do hope it will stay that way.

I will see if the old window is still there next time I am in Lyme Regis Gudrun. 1954 is a date on two of the pages. I agree with you, they are a joy to see :-))

These are fantastic Rosa............what a great find............an amazing collection of vintage advertisements!

The ones that strike a chord with me are the adverts for Guiness, Martini, OMO, Schweppes and Murraymints, OK Sauce, Scots Porridge Oats and I vaguely remember the Post magazine.

This should be saved for posterity and I guess a local museum would love the whole window! A cracking shot..!!

I so wish I could have got a clear shot of the window Keith. I remember the same ones as you, and good that some of them are still around. The date on both Picture Post front covers is 1954, so they must have been around for a while, or you and I would not recognise so many of them :-))

I'm showing my age Edna, as I remember about half of them! I haven't seen OMO for a long time, but my mother used to use it! Oh yes, Martini has stood the test of time!

That fourth from left on the middle row featuring Marlon Brando is dated 3 December 1955

I could see that it was 1954 on the page with Lesley Caron on. They have been there for a long, long time but I doubt they will be there when I visit again, unfortunately.

A wonderful collection Rosalyn I remember too many of them :((( what to do with them is a problem left exposed they will soon fade

It made my day even better seeing these in Lyme Peter :-) They are already very faded and sadly I think they will soon be removed and a new window in its place :-(

What a great find Rosa. There is quite a lot here that I remember too. My gran used the Puritan soap! A lot of memories there.
