Chapel of St Mary Magdalene
This pretty little church was pointed out to us along the Thames at Boveney. A church has been on the site since before the Norman conquest, but the fabric of the present church dates from the 12th century. Windows and the tower were added in the 15th century. The church was built to serve the bargemen working on the River Thames; there was a quay alongside the church but there are now no remains of this. It was apparently in a sorry state in 1942 and a local man penned a poem. This is the first verse:
If God goes back to Boveney
What will he say when he sees
The flint walled Church by the river
Hiding its shame in the trees
If God goes back to Boveney
What will he say when he sees
The flint walled Church by the river
Hiding its shame in the trees

This little church looked so beautiful on the banks of the river. I was not quick enough to get a shot on the outward journey but managed it on the slower return journey. Thank you again for your kind comments.
Best wishes, Rosa.
