Taken with an old cheap not special digital camera... but was a day in a 3 week Odyssey that meant all to me. I want to go Home.

, Marco F. Delminho, Gisela Plewe, Jenny McIntyre and 5 other people have particularly liked this photo

We sat by this fish pond, Pam, and watched the heaving mass of mating mating fish, some of them very large. We didn't know what they were, but the surface wasn't as smooth as this.

Amelia... They are carp in the pond.

It has been stocked as it traditionally was for the Monks. Carp were the staple fish for the Monks !

I thought that's what they were. I notice I have used the word mating twice. Well the pond was seething that day, i didn't get a photo as it had started to drizzle. I get very homesick for Fife in Scotland - but we are only 5 hours away. I don't know how you van stand it, Pam.

In truth.. I often can't. Jay is worth it.. but its so soooo hard. Its 1000 miles to the Atlantic coast..abd 3000 miles to swim.... that tell you the 3 reasons (add forth.. Flicka) I am here !

A delightful shot, Pam.
You were obviously feeling homesick and you still are by the sound of things. I left England a little before you but I can at least pop back every so often (once a year on average and I wish it could be more often!).
I don't have anything more sophisticated than a small digital and also my cameraphone. 30 years ago I had a nice Pentax ME with lenses but then fell out of the habit when I used to go climbing and simply couldn't have a big camera bouncing about on my tum when I had to concentrate on my next foot or hand hold! My small machines don't get in the way!!
All best wishes,
Andy

This is so lovely, Pam. I'm so sorry that you had been so homesick. I've been there. I remember on my first trip to Europe, I was just 21 and never been away from my family. As excited as I was to go, I did get hit in the face with being homesick. I was in Venice and it was rainy and REEKING of sewage and I was just so sad and lonely. I missed my family and couldn't help cryiing because I just wanted to be home. I got over it of course but it's really rough to feel that way. :( (It was 21 days and I think I got to Venice at the 2/3 mark)

I'm glad you liked the dahlia! :)

I wish that I could get you home...what a bummer for you. But you are loved and not alone and that is something.

I do love that you made this picture into a dust cover, how marvelous! I bet your book is a great read. :)
