Long-head Coneflower, with Spider's Web

Long-head Coneflower, with Spider's Web
My contribution to the World Photography Day group. Taken in West Dean Gardens, in West Sussex. We usually visit these lovely gardens several times a year, but this was the first time we'd been this year for various reasons.

We set out in overcast and quite miserable conditions, hoping that the sun would come out and burn off the cloud cover, but it was not to be. I had planned some landscape shots, but the skies were grey and featureless, so I decided to concentrate on taking photos of the flowers instead.

This was one of my favourites as it was a flower I'd never seen before and I think it looks quite odd, but strangely beautiful. The spider's web was a bonus.

Thanks for looking and I hope you all had a successful WPD.

Eric Desjours, Paolo Tanino, Nouchetdu38, Puchinpappy and 31 other people have particularly liked this photo

A lovely floral capture for WPD you did well to find one with a spiders web Keith, they are sometimes called Prairie Cone flowers you can grow them from seed flowering the first year I like one called Red Midget about 18" tall if you are into latin Ratibida columnifera f. pulcherrima I had to look that up :)))
Keith Burton club has replied to Peter Castell club
Thanks Peter,...........I think it was chosen for me as it was the only one standing tall enough to give me a clean background. I'd never seen one before and thought it was some sort of abnormality, but after a bit of research I found out what it actually was.

Thanks for the extra information..........and your kind comments. Much appreciated.

The web certainly makes this more than just a normal flower photo. Great choice for the group.
I'm impressed that you could shift your goal when the weather didn't cooperate. Lighting is obviously so important to photography - I like that you pay attention to that.

Did our event inspire you to chose the 19th to go to West Dean Gardens?

Happy World Photography Day!
(and thanks for your detailed description about you day in regards to our event)

I'm pleased you like this one Laura................the flower really stood out for me and it was the only one standing high enough to give me a clean background. The web was an unexpected bonus.

Yes, we planned the visit specifically for WPD. We hadn't been out for a while, so this gave us the incentive we needed.

Glad you like the photo and my narrative and thanks for your kind comments.

Yay! Our event inspired you!!

I've also been busy with the work of ipernity and forget to photograph. The event gets me to pay attention to photography also.
