Für die Luxemburger ist der Monte Bondone ein besonderer Berg, da 1956 der damals 23 Jahre junge Charly Gaul, den alle nach der Stelvio-Etappe schon abgeschrieben hatten, weil sein Rückstand auf Leader Pasquale Fornara auf über 16 Minuten angewachsen war, auf dieser epischen Giro-Etappe von Meran zum Monte Bondone die Basis für seinen Gesamtsieg holte.
