Saturday 25 May 2019 - Stagecoach North West hosted an open day at their Morecambe garage to celebrate 100 years since the formation of Ribble Motor Services. Stagecoach acquired Ribble in May 1989.

In this view is preserved Ribble 1686 (NRN 586), a MCW bodied Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 in the cherry red livery used by Ribble when the bus was new in October 1960. The other buses in this photograph are from Stagecoach's current fleet.

On the following day the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust held the 'Morecambe Vintage Bus Day' rally all making for an interesting weekend. Both events featured preserved buses and coaches in the colours of operators that worked services with Ribble.

The big group companies do them from time to time as a public relations exercise. They often feature visiting vintage buses along with the very newest buses with free bus rides around the locality plus access to the garage site where one can't normally go - very popular with bus enthusiasts. The general public like them too and the events often enable to kids to sit in driver's cabs (of the current fleet) along with things like rides through the bus washing machine etc.

The Stagecoach Morecambe event was to celebrate 100 years since the formation of Ribble Motor Services. Stagecoach acquired Ribble some years ago in the privatisation of the National Bus Company. The day after this the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust held a rally in Morecambe along similar lines. All making for an interesting weekend.

Ribble was my favourite big company operator when I was a schoolboy so the events were worth making the trip from East Anglia.
