The Sunday Challenge - Collage

The Sunday Challenge - Collage
So this has been one of those weeks where I thought I had things sorted and knew what I was doing only to realise on Saturday that I was totally on the wrong path.

You see the challenge, for those not in the know, was to create a collage of your favourite challenge so far, using new images ... not images already taken, which is what I've foolishly done here.

My interpretation of what a collage is might also be my second big mistake of the week. You see I took a shot of coloured water in a glass and combined that with some shots I took of light passing through that glass onto the coals in our gas fire to form a single new image.

Then, in turn, I've created an overlay that attempts to make it look as if the new combined image is actually made up of several smaller shots ... a sort of scattered image if you like in a style perhaps reminiscent of the David Hockney poster entitled "The Desk".

To be fair though, despite my reservations about how I've approached the challenge, I actually kind of like the finished result. It might have worked slightly better if I'd had time to micro-manage the position of the individual snaps just a little, but I ran out of time so it is what it is.

Like I say, I kind of like it, but as ever I'd welcome any comments or feedback you guys care to leave.

It is an artistic work, and does qualify as a collage since you have one photo overlying the other. And I think it's a bit clever to use the overlay to create an illusion that more than two photos are contained in your collage! Well done!

I don't like it at all!
I LOVE it!!

fantastic work from your wet, red phase! I love the way you put it all together...This is just fine, the use your 'old stuff' was for us recovering folk, take new shots was for the healthy folk... but lots of people interpreted this differently. It's all good Paul.

Phew, you had me going there for a minute Wendi with your opening remark!

So glad you do like it, as you say it's from my wet, red phase and nice to see you've added it onto your faves too!

Love it Paul! Great work! I read it the same way you did! I suspect for some of us newcomers ... the list would be pretty short!

Of course I like it! =) Actually it looks a little like an "arabic mosaic" or work by Escher.

Creative idea, like the focal point and the rich red. Looks like a jigsaw puzzle :-)

Thanks Gillian ... interesting what you say about the focal point: so the Rule of Thirds does work after all then ... sort of! :)

I'm seeing some great collages come out this week and I really like the randomness of this one, Paul!

Thanks Kenny. Sounds like the overlay did exactly what I'd hoped it would. :)

Well Paul, I think it's pretty cool looking and it reminds me of something, but I can't quite remember what. Like a book cover or album cover???? Anyway, it's funny how something you can be so unsure of turns out to be something everyone likes. Life's interesting that way I guess.. Nice job! :)

Thanks for that and for adding it onto your faves too! Like you say. funny how things turn out ... I guess my doubts give an insight into how I view the world at times. ;)

I feel that way too Paul. Sometimes I don't even want to post my photo, but then everything turns out all right.
