Handmade 1919 Victory Bears

Handmade 1919 Victory Bears
Another from the series of shots I took for the recent The Sunday Challenge, which had the theme of At The Market, but which also extended to cover shop displays.

This is a photo I took of part of the window display in Bettys Tearoom on the High Street. As you can see these were specially made to commemorate the Tour de France coming to North Yorkshire.

As some people overseas might not know much about Bettys or realise that these are edible, I've copied the following text from their website:

Wearing the iconic yellow jersey that was introduced in 1919, the year Bettys opened, our adorable cyclist bear looks set to take his place at the front of the greatest bicycle race.

Handcrafted from Swiss Grand Cru milk chocolate with marzipan decoration, he certainly leads the pack as a uniquely charming gift.

“With our heritage, we thought it would be nice to do a vintage cycling bear, so we went back through archives to see what cyclists used to wear,” says our Product Development Manager, Lesley Norris.

No, definitely edible ... Bettys is a very famous and upmarket tearoom. They literally queue down the street at times to get into them, especially the Harrogate one!

I've added some more information on the 1919 Victory Bears as these were called into my description above. :)

Indeed, but almost too good looking to eat I'd say. Check out the information I've now included in my description Chris and thanks for adding another of my photos to your faves! :)

Paul I have just browsed my way through Betty's .. my goodness, I may have gained a few pounds just looking. Spent time with the tea and Chocolate section (no surprise here!). I have bookmarked this site ... I want to check into their teas. Have you tried any of the Yorkshire teas? Being as I am from that area I thought it might be nice to try some. Thanks for posting the link!!

Better hit those scales in the morning Chris - lol. As for the teas, I'm afraid I've not tried them.

These bears look lovely, but at that price I couldn't eat one I'd just keep it if I ever got one.

That's the problem with Bettys ... they make some lovely stuff, but everything is expensive! :(
