Constructed in 1785 as a pleasant promenade for the citizens it was originally called Queens Walk ( Queen Charlotte) then Ladies Walk before becoming The New Walk by 1806 it linked the city centre to the race course now Victoria Park. The lamps erected between 1895 and 1900 were made in Leicester the same design can be found in Paris, in 1990 the patterns were found in a Paris foundry.
