Wonderful light and detail.... That long legged spider is a nice touch =) We call them "Daddy Long Legs" here in the US where they are very common and can get quite large (found one at my vacation property with legs that were 6 inches long!).

Yes, the translation is "papà gambalunga" ;-)

not really spiders, but Opiliones, they are not dangerous, without poison and they don't create a web.

Ours do bite if harassed... Their bite can be pretty painful -- especially if the victim is allergic.

well, I read different info on Wikipedia (An urban legend claims that the harvestman is the most venomous animal in the world, but possesses fangs too short or a mouth too round and small to bite a human, so is not dangerous (the same myth applies to Pholcus phalangioides and the cranefly, which are both also called a 'daddy longlegs'). This is untrue on several counts. None of the known species of harvestmen has venom glands; their chelicerae are not hollowed fangs but grasping claws that are typically very small and not strong enough to break human skin.)

Yeah.... I dunno.... I mean, I know they are supposed to be harmless & incapable of biting, however, I have been bitten by them on several occasions -- especially around my vacation property where they seem to like to call the wood pile home so the likelihood of grabbing on accidentally is pretty high.

My mom had a nasty reaction to one of their bites.... The spot went all red and swollen. Granted, she even break out in red spots where a spider even walks on her skin.

So, I dunno... The literature says one thing and experience says another =\

Facts aside, they are fascinating creatures =) I think we can agree on that ;)
