LANGUAGE WARNING The musical “Annie” introduced “It’s The Hard-Knock Life” (Charles Strouse – Martin Charnin) as performed by Andrea McArdle and the Original Broadway Cast. Andrea was on the soap opera “Search For Tomorrow” for over two years while “Annie” ran on Broadway for almost six years.

The hip hop version of “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” (Carter – James – Strouse – Chamin) is from the Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) 1998 album “Vol 2…Hard Knock Life”. The single peaked on Billboard at number two Rap, ten R&B, fifteen on the Top One Hundred. Jay-Z was the CEO of Def Jam Recordings and was partially responsible for the success of Rihanna and Kanye West.
