She is a Morris Dancer!!
Nobody seems to know the real tradition behind wearing the black face. It goes back centuries, and is nothing to do with racial prejudices.

Beatrice Degan(MARS), Valfal, gezginruh, Petar Bojić and 7 other people have particularly liked this photo

Hi Andy,

I don't know where this lady comes from, but the black face is usually associated with Morris Dancers from the Welsh borders.

There's a 'controversial' festival in Helston (or is it Padstow? - my mind is going), where they 'black' up!

Hi Rosa,

Thank you!!

Maybe she is from down your way? The black faces are associated with the Welsh borders.

But, as you say, better than mugging old ladies, or spray painting graffiti!

Hi Nick,

You win the prize tonight! Maybe you have some inside knowledge here!
Despite the protests of modern day do-gooders who see prejudice where there isn't any, the black face is a tradition which nobody seems to know the origins of. Unless you know better!

Hello Peter looks like a member the ancient Border Morris to me and one of the few dance widders here it seems that has not suffered the ban and been accused of racism ..YET

Thank you Steve.

Of course spot on! I don't know who she is, or where she is from, but a determined effort!
As for the black face, I have no time for those sick individuals who see racism everywhere, especially where it isn't, such as Robertsons Golden Shred, ( www.ipernity.com/doc/2247842/44039206 ) pub names, ( www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/44402054 ) or even farm animals
( www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/46764844 ) .
Next, they will be banning baa baa black sheep from schools.... (but we don't have black sheep in Wales) ... There is a Black Boy pub in Caernarfon though!

Hi Bea

Thank you so much for your very kind visit!
I am so pleased that you find it interesting!! If you like putting lots of little bells round your ankles, decorating your hat with flowers, and hitting sticks with your partner, then I am sure you will enjoy it!

Best Wishes
Peter
