Ballarat

Ballarat
Heading south out of Death Valley National Park, we stopped at the ghost town of Ballarat, where we took some photos of this old truck. There is not much left of the town - a kind of store and museum and a few ruined buildings and that is all. In fact, the most exciting thing we saw in the town was a Coachwhip Snake (see inset).

Outstanding images, all three! Couldn't pick a favorite to be honest. The truck is super cool and dripping with glorious details and character. The falling-down building is just awesome! And the snake? SO COOL THAT YOU SAW IT! Marvelous.

Thanks for sharing these pictures, I would love to go and investigate myself, get some macros of that truck and building...and maybe get the chance to say hello to that awesome snake too! :)

P.S. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment on my sporophyte picture, you have totally made my day and I cannot stop smiling! :D :D To be honest, I was hugely surprised by that image. The thing about macro sometimes, as you know, is that many times you do not have a clue about a picture until you see it on the computer. I couldn't have planned for that one, it just happened! I was really just hoping for a crisp sporophyte as a focal element...so when it painted up and I got hit in the face by all of that bokeh...holy cow...what a surprise. Anyway, I'm so glad it was captured so I could share this lucky picture with everyone! :)

LOL I just went over to your blog page and have run away screaming! :D Your photography leaves me gasping for air and tearing at my confidence...the incredible, endless 10/10 quality of your pictures is just beyond belief, Ron!!! What a talent...to see so much all at once is truly mind-blowing! I remember when I was first starting out with my first Canon point and shoot...I would look at Explore on Flickr, or somebody's photostream who I admired, and I'd have to stop after x pictures because I would become overwhelmed with a sense of futility..."I'll NEVER be that good! I'll NEVER learn to take such good pictures!!" etc...of course I kid (sort of, lol) about losing my confidence when looking at your endless stream of outstanding photography, but my GOSH...you are SOMETHING. And on top of it all, you're as humble as they come. *hat, off head* *hands it to you* Your blog does, however, make me think about posting a link to the website I made that features photography from the back of our motorcycle when we go on trips. I never got to the point of making it live, though I suppose it's probably reasonably done.

Three terrific photos. I'm amazed that the truck still has its tires intact.

It was indeed. These towns were crucial to the settlement of the west.
