NC500 GT. - 31 – To Handa Island
A breakwater or small pier here for todays HWW offering from way back in 2021.

A slight detour from our road as we begin a visit to the wildlife reserve of Handa Island. Here we are still on the mainland at the hamlet of Tarbet and this is the staging area for our short crossing to the Island with our cruise liner shown here :)


The NC 500: The Scottish 'North Coast 500' is one of the world’s most beautiful road trips. A route of just over 500 miles (516) of stunning coastal scenery, white sandy beaches, rugged mountains, remote fishing villages and hidden gems.

Thanks Gordon. I at first thought this was on the Iland itself but no, its still the mainland and we are getting ready to cross. The Island was most interesting and I shall post another taken on the Island soon. Yes, you would have enjoyed the big sea cliffs with the birds.

Maybe it was higher out of the water at same time my friend. Yes this rubber dingy was our transport. We landed on a sandy shore on the Island and chanced getting our feet wet :)

Judging by the coverage of the breakwater/jetty, there is a pretty high tidal range there Herb, so the shallow draft of the dinghy is essential.

The dinghy stands out nicely and anchors the frame well. This is a beautiful bit of coastline and you've captured in in lovely light and detail.

Yes, I guessed that the tidal range here was quite high too. The dinghy was essential on Handa, as it had to be beached on the sandy shore. Glad you liked my take of this area.
