NC500 GT. - 31 – Kylesku Bridge

NC500 GT. - 31 – Kylesku Bridge
Welcome to the Kylesku Bridge. Quite a wonderful structure, known as a box-girder bridge with its elegant curve that unfortunately I miss on here :)

“It was opened in 1984 by our Queen Elizabeth. In 2019, the bridge was classified by Historic Environment Scotland as a Category A structure, recognising it as "visually striking and technically innovative". The bridge crosses water which is approximately 120 metres (390 ft) wide and up to 25 metres (82 ft) deep, leading to fast tidal currents. It replaced the ferry between Kylesku and Kylestrome, which was 400 metres to the east. The bridge is designed to be sympathetic to the surrounding country, and the approaches were chosen to minimise changes to the landscape.” Wiki

The NC 500: The Scottish 'North Coast 500' is one of the world’s most beautiful road trips. A route of just over 500 miles (516) of stunning coastal scenery, white sandy beaches, rugged mountains, remote fishing villages and hidden gems.

Glad you popped by Gordon. It was a stunning bridge in an equally stunning location. My original Ipernity offering at the time was a better take however: www.ipernity.com/doc/1081863/51141414

Very well captured Herb

As I said to Colin, what a nightmare this must have been when the ferry was the only option,

Thank you for adding your image to the "North Coast 500 Group"

Yes I have seen some photos of this corner before the bridge done by my brother-in-law. He said it was a wonderful bind having to take the small car ferry across the water just past the village.
I have mapped it here now.

My pleasure to share. Herb

Hi Herb
I like this picture very much!
It is a very different and exciting composition
Fantastic colours too,
If I had a pound for every time some structure was "designed to minimise changes to the landscape" (or similar), I would be on my luxury yacht in the south of France!!
Best Wishes, HWW,, and stay safe!!

I can see where you are coming from Peter. In actual fact, it is an extraordinary beautiful bridge as shown in my link to Toz above. At least it seem to blend in somehow with the colour of the land here.

Cheers for the visit. Herb

A beautifully designed bridge which doesn't detract too much from the view...........which is magnificent. An excellent capture Herb.
