Hartelijke groeten,Frans.
This is a first and clear success in terms of technical control of site improvements without external (and costly) intervention, which marks a major step forward in the community's control of the site.
Many thanks to Rob for this quick and efficient handling.
Suggestions for improvement are increasingly welcome. Ipernity belongs to us and we can now, with respect for democracy, give it the guidelines we all want, whether in terms of ergonomics or in terms of usability and functionality.
HaarFager club has replied to Eric Desjours clubXata club has replied to HaarFager clubSo it is a priviledge that everyone can personalize its page in the chosen colour, for those who love white it will stay white. Isn't that wonderful???
Marko Novosel club has replied to Xata clubEric Desjours club has replied to HaarFager clubAfter having things like this constantly foisted uponus, without choice to "opt out," over at Fl*ckr because a "few" users complained, or even better yet, no users complained, I worry about things like this.
raingirl club has replied to HaarFager club[As to specific numbers - how many users want a non-white background - I'm sure the team won't have spent their precious time on something that few people are interested in. For what it's worth - I prefer a darker background so you can add me to the number, but I really enjoy the ability to change the background!]
Kudos to the people who have not liked the white background but have stuck with us. Now they also will be able to enjoy the photographs how they prefer - and to me, getting to enjoy the photography is kind of the point.
I think it's great that you are so protective of our site. It is good to keep engaging around this as complacency leads to things potentially going awry fast (as we all know all too well these days). I would imagine that if you have the time and energy to devote to helping keep the site going in a community driven way that the IMA team could use the support. You could check in with them about that.
neira-Dan club has replied to HaarFager clubEn quoi est-ce gênant pour ceux qui préfère le fond blanc ?
Team club has replied to HaarFager clubThe desire to customize the background color was a long-time wish of many users. Because the white background improves the readability of writing, worsens however the picture rendering. (It is not without reason that professional image processing programs like Photoshop use a dark background.) The comments below the blog quoted above speak for themselves. However, to answer your question about the percentage of users who want a choice-option, let's have a look at the democratic opinion formation on the design of the new Frontpage. There we see that a good 40% of users wished for adaptability:
(Further information: Frontpage redesign Study from September 2017 with 214 comments.)
If you like white, like so many others, you can simply ignore the new feature, just as you can ignore the improved geo-mapping or the improved translator. (Mac users don't have to use Apple's new eye-friendly Dark Mode either . . .)
But for those who want this option, it's an enrichtment.

Guido Werner club has replied to HaarFager clubthere seems to be a misunderstanding. There is only an option added to change the back ground color. So every user can see the background color they wish. Nothing is forced on any user. You can let the white background color as it is. An other user who prefers for example a dark background can choose that. So what is the problem if every user can see the background color they prefer?
Bergfex club has replied to Guido Werner clubIt's like with the "status function" at WhatsApp.
Those who love it use it. Those who find it obsolete don't.
It's quite simple, isn't it?
Better to have a choice than none.
Kalli club has replied to Team clubKalli club has replied to Bergfex clubraingirl club has replied to Team clubGreat to have background color options! I use Chrome. I think it's important to show how to get back to white. Maybe the red X works for some, it returns to a previous choice, but never returns to white. Maybe that's the reason that FFF = white background. (or if programming could be done, maybe a white box could fit under the red X).
FFF = white background
Thanks so much for all this !!!!
FYI - for me (again on Windows, Chrome), I can no longer click on the link next to the little envelope that takes me to the newsbreak page. Maybe it's because I've already gone to that page and it only is supposed to work when I have not seen it yet?

For those of you that it was not working for, I do hope I have fixed the problem.
Fixed the excess avatar white space.
Positioning of the pull-down is correct even when there is a group menu on the bar.
Button added for easier reset to white.
If you understand the 6 digit hexadecimal color coding, these can also be input, allowing finer tuning of the color.
Only changing the background color is a simple approach, and as you have found certain colors cause text to disappear, also some grey icons. The preset greys on the form avoid those colors. The alternative, as you may be aware of on other sites is the simple choice between a light or dark style, predefined as thought best by the designer, which may or may not suit your taste, but it does address the problem of less legible text.
For viewing photos, a choice of grey may well be best, but then for reading blogs, you can easily choose a pastel shade, without having to access account settings.
raingirl club has replied to Rob Stamp clublove the addition of the 'white' box for returning to white.
love that one can put in any hexadecimal color coding for full color choices!! nice touch that.

i think what some of the others are saying (it is happening to me) - is that after i choose a page color, the page i'm on turns the correct color, BUT as soon as i move to a different page on ipernity the background color goes back to white.

It sounds like cookies are not being saved, or perhaps being deleted when you exit, which is an option in Edge. It may even be possible to set rules specific to a web site.
I can only suggest you study the help for the browser that you are using, or perhaps find answers in online forums, for the issues mentioned.
Thanks for the observation, clearly a special case for English speakers. Edit done.

I like the fact that there are options to change the background colour of what you are seeing, same as with the highlighting options of the colour scheme.
Thank you Rob and the technical team at ima ...
Bonne fin de semaine à vous tous
Here is a table that shows other colors as well.... but they are less useful for the purpose.
Every individual code (hex) can be copied and pasted here at Ipernity.

Deepl translation:
It's great that Ipernity offers so many possibilities to customize the pages (color scheme, background color, layout and layout of the home page). I consider that, together with the photos, as my 'intellectual property'.
I think it is fundamentally wrong that third parties can make changes to it, even if it is only for their own use. For example, I opt for a white background, because I think that my photos are best suited to this. Third parties who want to view my photos have to do so and if they don't like it, they won't look!
If it is allowed that the background color can be changed by third parties, what will happen next? The colour scheme or the content and layout of the home page?
I know that there is one other application where third parties can influence my photos: adding keywords and notes. This is only possible with my permission (even for different groups). This also seems to me to be a good solution for adjusting the background colour by third parties.
