I recently received the sad news that Barbara "Babs" Bird (aka corduroy cat), a former member of the Vintage Photos Theme Park, passed away on February 9. After Babs left Ipernity, she continued to post artwork and photos as corduroy_cat on Instagram. Although I wasn't in touch with Babs recently, I appreciated her friendliness and quirky sense of humor. 3/4 - 3/10 MESSAGES, CAPTIONS, INSCRIPTIONS (A written comment, description, or explanation added to the back or front of a photo.)

According to the blurb on its back cover, Talking Pictures: Images and Messages Rescued from the Past (2012), by Ransom Riggs, is "a haunting collection of antique found photographs—with evocative inscriptions that bring these lost personal moments to life." His short film about his collection of Talking Pictures is worth a look. Riggs also used found photos as illustrations in his bestselling series of books about Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

3/11 - 3/17 ALL DRESSED UP AND NOWHERE TO GO (Fashionably dressed women and men.)

Artist and collector Tom Phillips authored a series of books, each of which is subtitled "Vintage People on Photo Postcards." Two of these dealt with clothing—Women and Hats (2010) and Menswear (2012).

3/18 - 3/24 KNITTING, FISHING, AND KISSING, (Photos of people who are knitting, fishing, or kissing. Post examples of all three if you have them.)

Barbara Levine collected vintage photos for a book of People Knitting (2016). With Paige Ramey, she also authored People Fishing (2018) and People Kissing (2018). All three books are subtitled "A Century of Photographs."

3/25 - 3/31 AWKWARD FAMILY PHOTOS (Vintage photos of odd, embarrassing, or amusing scenes from your own family's history or someone else's.)

Authors Mike Bender and Doug Chernack compiled hilarious collections of Awkward Family Photos (2010), Awkward Family Pet Photos (2011), and Awkward Family Holiday Photos (2013) from submissions to their Awkward Family Photos web site.

It's Halloween month, my favorite time of the year, so I thought this could be a fun time to get all spooky with our photos! Just for this month, I am changing up the dates and rules a bit just for the last theme which will run for almost two weeks. Next month, dates will run as usual. Have fun with it!

09/29 - 10/05 DEFACED any photo that was found with the face scratched off, marked out, cut, etc. ALTERNATE if you don't have a defaced photo in your collection, you can post any found photo that has been altered in some way, such as with writing, drawing, collage, etc.

10/13 - 10/19 HAUNTED HOUSE spooky exteriors or interiors
