One of the most colorful politicians in a state famous for such, John Lomelo Jr. was mayor of the City of Sunrise, Florida, from its establishment as a city no longer owned by its developer to his conviction for having shaken down developers. A personable fellow fond of singing "My Way" in local watering holes, he floated a revenue bond issue to build a theater in the (ultimately successful) hope that Frank Sintra would perform in Lomelo's town. Lomelo had a door disguised as a bookcase in his office, but he did not have a huge bump on his noggin.
