HFF Terlingua Texas USA 3rd October 1980

Terlingua graveyard in West Texas on the northern edge of Big Bend National Park. The discovery of cinnabar, from which the metal mercury is extracted, in the mid-1880s brought miners to the Terlingua area, creating a city of 2,000 people. The only remnants of the mining days are a ghost town of the Chisos Mining Company and several nearby capped and abandoned mines. The population today is 78! Terlingua features in Wim Wenders' movie Paris, Texas. HFF everyone. Enjoy your Easter weekend.

Kruger National Park South Africa 20th May 1982

We drove from Johannesburg to Kruger Park for a short break spending just one night at Pretoriuskop in the park. With no particular plan we just drove around for the day and were surprised how many animals were about although we didn't see any big cats. This pod of hippos were lazing about in the river. In fact they are among the most dangerous animals in the world due to their aggressive and unpredictable nature.

HFF Heaton Lodge Huddersfield West Yorkshire 22nd October 2017

The footbridge over the ex-LNWR "Leeds New Line" dates from the line’s opening in 1900 but today it is almost disappearing into the jungle. The ex-LYR Calder Valley line lies beyond just west of Heaton Lodge Junction where the two run parallel. HFF to Everyone. Enjoy your weekend.

HBM Great Central Railway Ruddington Nottinghamshire 16th March 2024

This weekend marks the 125th Anniversary of the opening of the MSLR/Great Central Railway extension from Annesley to London Marylebone. To mark the occasion both GCR North & South participated in a weekend Gala. The two halves were linked by a heritage bus service and I took it from Quorn to Ruddington. This is the northern terminus now with two platform roads and a central siding. Class 20 diesel D8154 sits in the new platform line only completed the day before! An HST or more fittingly for this celebration an Intercity125 is on the left with a Class 08 Jocko in the centre. The platform bench is from the late-lamented Nottingham Victoria station. HBM to everyone. Enjoy the start of the new week.
