So, I haven't watched any of the E3 conferences; it just didn't happen this year. I'm not feeling too bad about it though. I went to see the Ratchet and Clank movie this weekend. My youngest, who's 8, wanted to see it, so it took him and my eldest who's a couple years older. My youngest had fun with it, more so than my oldest, which I think is a good representation of the audience that it's geared towards. So yes, there is an audience out there that this movie is for. But what about me?

We saw Ant-Man on the weekend, and I thought it was very good! That got me thinking as to how I would rank the recent run of Marvel movies, and this is what I came up with.

Fun enough to watch once, but not a lot to bring me back for repeated viewings.

I haven't been able to watch any of the E3 conferences this year, but that hasn't stopped me about thinking of the year ahead in gaming as I piece together what I see others talking about.

Jim Sterling on the Jimquisition was talking about how the Devil May Cry reboot from a couple years ago (DMC) is a great game, and I would agree. I was considering doing game awards for what I played in 2014, but never got around to finishing them. If I did, DMC was probably going to get the Game of the Year title.

I won't reveal any specifics, but my comments may lead you to guess what's going to happen. Short story is: I enjoyed the movie, although it was longer than it needed to be.

Of the 2013 movies nominated for the Academy Award for best picture, I've seen Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, Gravity, and Her. I've shared my thoughts on Gravity and Her already. And although Dallas Buyers Club was good, I'm not sure I'll ever be in the mood to watch it again. I also enjoyed Captain Phillips, which was probably my favourite of those movies, until now.

2016 - Too far away or better left alone?

I've seen some people I follow on Twitter tweeting about Indie Game developers. Here's my thoughts; and I should say that it's complete conjecture.

I went to the UK recently and had a chance to watch some movies. Here are some quick synposes of what I watched. I will say that I must not be smart enough to appreciate some of the movies that were deemed Oscar worthy, as I weren't particularly impressed by them.

I don't like Steam. Not based on my limited experience. Aside from the gamble you're taking with some indie developers, and in spite this being all about digital whereas I like my hard copy, there's something I can't get by.

I saw a link posted by MadTyger on Twitter to an article titled "CEO Addresses Gender Balance In 'Skylanders Trap Team'": www.forbes.com/sites/andyrobertson/2014/06/23/trap-team-skylanders-girls It talks about a conscious effort to put more female characters into their next Skylanders game (that's a great thing) and the frustrations that come when being told it's too hard to sell toys with a female gender to a target audience of boys. Despite the flaws I find in that way of thinking, I'm sure that it is sadly more accurate than it should be. I won't get into the choice of demographic they feel they need to go for on this post as I want to focus on the marketing to that demographic.

Trying to squeeze too much into a movie can result in some disjointed story-telling. But when you're not in the need for something smart, it's nice to have something fun.

There's plenty of things I'm getting tired of hearing. You know what I'm fixating on today? People staring their sentences with "To be honest..."

Another one of those movies that I hadn't heard much about but ended up enjoying.

Being a fan of Pitch Black, I was looking forward to seeing Riddick and I finally got a chance this past week. It was good.
