Hey Lolly, Lolly ...

A shot of the crest that adorns the outside of the old telephone exchange in Northallerton, North Yorkshire. For Sight and Sound ... what else, but the lovely one hit wonder by Meri Wilson entitled "Telephone Man" - enjoy: youtu.be/bTDzFUlrDYM youtu.be/Xf9zy7uue-I youtu.be/MahswYBewb0

1972 Morris Marina 1.3 Coupé - DAJ 224L

02 Feb 2016 12 8 1058
The Morris Marina was manufactured from 1971 through until 1980 and sold in some markets as the Austin Marina, the Leyland Marina and the Morris 1700. The much-maligned Marina has been described in many a review as one of the worst cars of all time, although it was hugely popular car in Britain throughout its production life. Rust-proofing on British cars from that period was typically poor, which explains why these cars are a very rare sight on our roads today. So, it was nice to come across this one although the choice of exhaust fitted seemed a little dubious.

1966 Wolseley 1100 - EUX 869D

01 Oct 2015 13 10 1368
This old 'land crab' looked pretty neat overall although there did appear to be something going on with that front wing. Based on the BMC ADO16 platform it was one of several economical small family cars built by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and, later, British Leyland. It was launched in 1962 and for most of the next decade the ADO16 was consistently the UK's best-selling car. The ADO16 was marketed under various make and model names including: Austin 1100 and 1300; MG 1100 and 1300; and Riley Kestrel as well as the Wolseley 1100, 1275, and 1300 to name but a few. Badge engineering ... don't you just miss it!

1958 MG MGA - DHE 22

27 May 2015 5 8 1236
Perhaps even better than that red MGB GT is this much older MGA. The MGA replaced the MG TF 1500 Midget and represented a complete styling break from MG's earlier sports cars. It was produced from 1955 through until 1962. Best viewed large, but just watch you don't end up drooling over your monitor!

The Mighty World Of Comics ...

12 Apr 2015 26 39 1760
A bit of fun created for this week's Sunday Challenge , where the theme was comics ... those paper-based publications that transported children (and some adults) into imaginary worlds where anything was possible and all long before game consoles came along. What you could shoot for this week's challenge and the style of presentation was pretty wide open ... pretty much anything was acceptable as long as it had something to do with comics or was presented in a comic style. Having been a great reader, collector and hoarder of comics growing up I decided to create an spherical collage featuring many of the titles I grew up with. The majority of them are from the Sixties and Seventies although there are a couple from the Eighties. The individual covers you can see within the sphere are all comics from my own collection. Each was photographed individually a while back when I was thinking of maybe selling them to raise some cash, then over the last few days they were brought together in a random fashion, before being turned into the sphere you see here. So, hit z to view large and see how many you remember?

1980 Austin Morris Mini 850 Super - VCO 780V

Yet another Mini, this time from an earlier period back, but equally appealing!

1956 Austin A30 - FKS 871

29 Jan 2015 5 10 1050
The Austin A30 was a compact economy car launched at the 1951 Earls Court Motor Show. Produced from 1952 to 1956, it was replaced by the Austin A35.

1981 Morris 575 Pick-Up - TAR 914W

23 Mar 2014 3 4 1203
The Marina van and pick-up were introduced in 1972, ending the production of Morris Minor and Austin A60 derived goods vehicles. Launched in both Austin and Morris versions, the badging soon became Austin-Morris. With the launch of the Marina 2, the goods versions were revised and renamed Morris 440 (for 7cwt) or Morris 575 (for 10cwt), this being an example of the latter. 1968 Riley Elf - NBC 409F

The more I see of these little cars, the more I like them. Sadly, production ceased in the late Sixties when British Leyland discontinued the Riley and Wolseley brand names.

Austin Allegro Vanden Plas - Details Unknown

21 Jan 2014 639
A true 'marmite' of a car, the Austin Allegro was a common sight on British roads in the 1970s and early 1980s. This is a Vanden Plas variant, which I spotted not far from the Daihatsu Sportrak I uploaded earlier. As it happens, Vanden Plas originated in Belgium, although the name derives from the Dutch, and to be grammatically correct should be expressed Van der Plas. Check out the following link for more information on the history of the Vanden Plas name: www.vpoc.info/history.html

Up close and personal with the Elf ... rather apt with Christmas looming!

1969 Riley Elf - TVY 57H

17 Dec 2013 2 8 1106
Built as more luxurious versions of the Mini, both the Wolseley Hornet and the Riley Elf had longer, slightly finned rear wings and larger boots that gave the cars a more traditional design. Production reportedly ceased in late 1969 when British Leyland discontinued the Riley and Wolseley brand names so this particular car, first registered on 5th December 1969, would have been one of the last produced.

1984 Austin Ambassador 2.0 HL - A406 RDO

25 Nov 2013 612
The lack of a tailgate in the Princess was seen as a major drawback but the other major weakness of the Princess - that of its performance - still wasn’t properly addressed with the Ambassador. The Ambassador was certainly more versatile and had much better packaging than its forebear but it was no performance car when compared with its rivals. Nevertheless, Autocar - though under whelmed by its performance - were enthusiastic about the Ambassador and gave it the thumbs up; their road test of 10th April 1982 said of the 2.0HL, “The Ambassador’s strengths are its ride, good (for most people) seating, its frugal-for-two-litres economy, all for a very good price, which makes it exceptional value for money.” Source: www.leylandprincess.co.uk

Poor photo, but superb car so I thought it still worth posting.
