Meanwhile, Near To A Place Where Ice Cream is Sold

08 Oct 2024 2 27
The Biss Meadows Renovation Opening Event of 2013. They may have re-renovated since; it's a large area and reliant on volunteers to keep it presentable. Leaving the civic hoo-hah and speeches, I chanced upon this charming threesome who agreed to my taking their photograph. I used a Nikon D50 at 400 ISO and 1/250th, Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6 AF G at 70mm and f/4 (i. e. wide open). I've bought this lens at least twice because for the money it's really quite good (but best under 200mm). It's also very light in weight. The later VR version is better, but not by as much as you might expect given its higher cost (and it weighs a lot more).

A Blonde Buying Ice Cream

Scenes of a Wiltshire village one Thursday afternoon in September, 2015. Nikon D2Xs + Nikkor-P 105mm f/2.5 + Nikon Teleconverter TC-16A. The EXIF data shows '134.5 mm' because I set the camera for a 135mm focal length to compensate for using a teleconverter with the 105mm lens. 135mm is, of course, not 105 x 1.6 but it's close enough for metering.

Castlerigg Stone Circle

First there was the Stone Age. Then there was the Ice Cream Age. A selective enlargement from a much bigger picture. I had only a 35mm f/1.8 lens mounted on a Nikon D50 that day. 400 ISO, 1/250th, f/8.

A revision of an earlier photograph using Lightroom. Even when the original is a jpeg there are many possibilities. Two holidaymakers at Lyme Regis, August, 2014. Tokina SD 50-135mm f/2.8 DX AT-X Pro on a Nikon D2Xs.

A Woman I Didn't Meet at Castlerigg Stone Circle

She was posing for a companion who was using an old Olympus film SLR camera (I tend to notice that kind of detail). She posed so exuberantly I thought it would be practically a crime against photography not to record the moment myself. I had only a 35mm lens that day, being intent on the landscape, and a telephoto would have been better for this portrait. It is cropped quite heavily to frame the woman to best advantage. Nikon D50 + Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.8 DX G lens.
