Also very much a record shot, this picture poses the silent question 'what will the future look like?' It is only 11 years since the first arrival at Heathrow of a Singapore Airlines A380 marked a new future now curtailed by the announcement of the end of production of the type. It was the same airline which withdrew from service its first A380 (9V-SKA) only ten years after delivery. A later aircraft is seen here with a Thai Airways example at Heathrow's Terminal 2. What will my photographs of ten years time look like?

No more than a record shot, this simple picture from a compact camera shows a typical morning scene at Heathrow's Terminal 2. Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways are represented by A380s and Air India and Air Canada by B787s. The seemingly perpetual HSBC branding is evident on the terminal buildings.

The bright walkway linking the A and B gates of Heathrow's Terminal 2 features images from the lifetime of the airport. Only two weeks after the death of David Bowie, no picture could have been more poignant.

It is nice to be able to post this photograph of the operational Terminal 2 (The Queen's Terminal) after all the pictures I took during its development. Terminal 2 became operational on 4 June 2014 with the beginning of a phased transfer of airlines from other terminals and was officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen on 23 June 2014. To the right of centre, work is in progress to erect a rather large advertising site also featured in my next photograph.

'Slipstream' by Richard Wilson is an aluminium sculpture which dominates the covered court of Heathrow's Terminal 2.
Quite difficult to assimilate from a single angle, it is worth a walk around at departures level. The Heathrow Airport press release associated with its unveiling reveals that it represents 'an imagined flight path of a Zivko Edge 540 stunt plane'.

The Wetherspoons at the south end of Heathrow's Terminal 2 is called The Flying Chariot and its design reflects various aviation themes. Most striking amongst them is this homage to the present day control tower.

To remember Heathrow's Europa Building, later the original Terminal 2, is to remember with fondness a different era. The Terminal 2 of the 21st century is necessary for many reasons but it was nice to see this plaque in a prominent position on the new building.

The intentionally ambiguous title of today's shots of Heathrow's new Terminal 2 indicates both that the opening date is approaching and that one can get closer now to the building during the final stages of construction.
This view from the Terminal 1 car park will soon pass into history as the remaining infrastructure work is completed.
My pictures today are dedicated to my friends who have Heathrow in their hearts.
