The rebranding of Lloyds Bank, depicted in an earlier post, was coincident with the return to our towns after 18 years of TSB. This poster appeared in Wheatsheaf Alley, Sheerness only yards from the High Street branch. P1180918

Sheerness Local Board of Health (5) - 15 October 2…

Sheerness is a pretty dismal town on the Isle of Sheppey and, at first sight, has little to recommend it. Faded though it is, it is the home to some gems of Victorian architecture and this derelict building is probably foremost amongst them. It appears to be in two distinct parts and it is difficult to say whether some restoration is under way or intended. There appears to be some ecclesiastical influence in its facade. I would be interested to know more about the Sheerness Local Board of Health. P1180936

Rides Mill - 15 October 2013

The history of this mill, an unexpected sight just off High Street, Sheerness is long and complicated and I don't much care to rely on any single source on the internet. The original Great Mill was built in 1813. It was demolished in 1924. At some stage (probably from 1864) it was known as Rides Mill, the name which is reflected in the passage through which it is reached. A restoration started in 2006 but received a setback in 2008 when the mill caught fire. Nevertheless, the developers persevered and the building is now renamed Watson's Mill and is occupied by an office of Sharrocks Insurance. P1180914
