The real point of this composition is to include the semaphore signal but the line-up is attractive as well. Class 47 D1705 'Sparrowhawk' stands with one of two Class 45 'Peaks' 45041 'Royal Tank Regiment' whilst the other, D123, is visible in the distance. Also visible is Class 10 10119. 200_P1040658

Being in the depths of the then Southern Region as a boy, I had a special fascination with the 'Peaks' and remember being thrilled when, unexpectedly, 58 'The King's Own Royal Border Regiment' came through Havant. The remainder of what I saw - before I was able to travel more widely - were at St Pancras on services from Nottingham and Sheffield. These days then, it is still a delight to see a 'Peak'. There are two on the Great Central Railway, one of which, 45041 'Royal Tank Regiment', is delightfully preserved in BR blue. 200_P1040651

Viewed with care, this photograph shows detail even in the shadows. It was difficult to expose correctly. One of the mouthwatering line-ups at Loughborough was of King Arthur Class 4-6-0 777 'Sir Lamiel', BR Standard Class 9F 92214 and 'Peak' D123. 200_P1040646

The beautiful condition of 'Peak' D123 is spoiled a little by the scar on the side (perhaps caused by the removal of its nameplate?). However, as one of two of the class at Loughborough, it gave me great pleasure to see. 200_P1040639

I don't know whether such a scene occurred in BR days but I was thrilled to be able to shoot this meeting of BR Standard Class 9F 92214 and 'Peak' D123 at Loughborough. 200_P1040644
