There are so many places you go where you can step back in time but, often, the broad sweep of a modern photograph reveals so much of the present day. After my recent visit to Caen, I thought I would have a bit of fun by adding to my many contemporary images of the city with this edited view of Église Saint-Pierre from Caen Castle. If one does not take a magnifying glass to the background, this view will not have changed much in hundreds of years.

The Château de Caen (Caen Castle) was originally built c1060 by William the Conqueror (Guillaume le Conquérant) and was subject to various amendments and additions. Its grounds now house, amongst other things, the Musée des Beaux-Arts and its ramparts offer impressive views of the city and surrounding area.
This view includes The Église Saint-Pierre.

Caen was extensively destroyed in the latter stages of the Second World War but still has, through survival or reconstruction, some attractive and interesting sights. Amongst them are Église Saint-Pierre and Château de Caen both of which are seen here from Rue du Vaugueux.
