London Unusually - Beyond Sermon Lane - 25 August…

With plenty of firm verticals and a little morning haze, this is a wistful view absorbing the relative quietness of an early Sunday morning and looking from Sermon Lane, across the Millennium Bridge to Tate Modern and beyond. This shot would actually look a little odd without people so I was not unhappy with the small number of pedestrians around.

The inaugural Hyundai Commission for the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern, 'Empty Lot' by Abraham Cruzvillegas, was on display 13 October 2015 - 3 April 2016.
'Empty Lot' is a large geometric sculpture created using scaffolding, a grid of triangular wooden planters, and soil collected from parks across London including Peckham, Haringey and Westminster. Nothing was planted in the soil, but it was lit by lamps and watered throughout the six month display period.
The large scale of this work made it difficult to photograph well so my pictures, taken on the penultimate day of the display, are far more documentary than they are artistic.

A pleasingly simple poster (one of several) previews the planned opening of the extension to Tate Modern.
There is a certain irony, I think, in the fact that the poster carries a couple of tags.
