Stored at Newquay (2) - 22 July 2020

Thomas Cook aircraft arrived at Cornwall Airport Newquay in October 2019. It is not entirely surprising to see them still there as any plans for disposal would have been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. However, I understand that the two A330s had a brief stint with the Danish Sunclass Airlines before being returned to Newquay, although they are still in full Thomas Cook colours. Two Interjet A320neos are more recent arrivals having, apparently, never taken up their intended Mexican registrations. One is seen in this shot. All these aircraft are now on the Cayman Islands register and, from camera, are VP-CCS, VP-CCH, VP-CCO and VP-CCP. TZ70_P1020498CE

A Sad Last Look at Thomas Cook (6) - 31 October 20…

31 Oct 2019 69
The collapse of Thomas Cook on 23 September 2019 was followed quite quickly by an announcement by Hays Travel that they would acquire all 555 former Thomas Cook shops and re-employ a large number of staff. Progress with re-openings was steady and by 31 October 413 stores were open again. In Fareham, this branch retained its Thomas Cook fascia on that date although several Hays Travel notices were displayed in the window. The existing Hays Travel branch is only a few doors to the east of this Fareham Shopping Centre location. In Gosport High Street, a similar situation pertained where the existing Hays Travel Shop is almost opposite the re-opened Thomas Cook branch. Only time will tell whether this is sustainable or practical. TZ70_P1010354CE

My visit to Newquay today was, primarily, to see the Thomas Cook aircraft which had been moved there after the sad collapse of the business. There were five aircraft in the care of Apple Aviation, 3 x A330 and 2 x A321. The two A330s here are G-CHTZ with G-TCXB. TZ70_P1010333E

My visit to Newquay today was, primarily, to see the Thomas Cook aircraft which had been moved there after the sad collapse of the business. There were five aircraft in the care of Apple Aviation, 3 x A330 and 2 x A321. Here, A321 G-TCDX was receiving a lot of attention - although I waited for people to be out of an already busy shot. The no. 1 engine cowlings are open and it sounded as though the APU was running. I would not normally post a photograph including a fence and ground equipment but I was not going to miss any opportunity before the former Thomas Cook aircraft find new lives. TZ70_P1010335CE

Thomas Cook, Gosport - 22 September 2019

23 Sep 2019 62
On the morning of Sunday 22 September 2019, the storm clouds were already gathering over the Thomas Cook company. Only hours later, their financial collapse was confirmed and shops like this at 95-96 High Street, Gosport would not open again. I record such developments with great sadness. Whatever the circumstances of such now too frequent failures, the human cost to holidaymakers but especially the thousands of employees should never be underestimated or forgotten. TZ70_P1010137C
