Urban Transit Authority - 3 November 1989

06 Apr 2020 73
Working with my photographs more than thirty years after many of them were taken, I have had, in some cases, to do a considerable amount of research to add information to the notes written on the backs of the originals. The records show that the Urban Transit Authority was renamed State Transit Authority as early as January 1989 but, nearly one year later, these three vehicles, seen at Sydney's Circular Quay, were still in the original livery. By this time, a once more diverse fleet consisted largely of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. This picture shows, I think, an O405 flanked by two O305s. I stand to be corrected. White Bay Cruise Terminal - 7 March 2015

13 Mar 2015 128
The Sydney destination of the Holland America Oosterdam was the White Bay Cruise Terminal at Balmain. The terminal is modern and easy to use but much less convenient than the more prestigious Ocean Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay. There are no direct public transport links but we did not have a problem getting a taxi. 200_2_P1040215

Barangaroo Development - 7 March 2015

13 Mar 2015 132
The development of Sydney is nowhere better symbolised by the multi-use construction at Barangaroo. This is a 'docklands' development of the sort seen around the world as shipping and stevedoring give way to the activities of the modern day. Work started in about 2009 and is due for overall completion in 2023. 200_2_P1040213C

As the dawn lit the eastern sky behind Sydney Harbour Bridge, the day's weather remained undecided but it began to look as though the sun might win. 200_2_P1040198

As the Oosterdam neared its final destination on our cruise, dawn and drizzle made photography both interesting and challenging but it takes more than a little adverse weather to diminish the impact of Sydney's most recognisable landmarks. 200_2_P1040191C

As the Oosterdam neared its final destination on our cruise, dawn and drizzle made photography both interesting and challenging. It is quite a tight manoeuvre for a cruise ship to pass under Sydney Harbour Bridge, conducted slowly enough to easily capture this shot to the north and less touristy parts of the city. 200_2_P1040187

As the Oosterdam neared its final destination on our cruise, dawn and drizzle made photography both interesting and challenging. The lights on a dull morning add a little sparkle to a photograph which is hard to distinguish from, possibly, millions of similar images of Sydney Opera House. 200_2_P1040183C

As the Oosterdam neared its final destination on our cruise, dawn and drizzle made photography both interesting and challenging. Fort Denison is a former penal and defensive site in Sydney Harbour about 1km east of the Opera House and now houses a restaurant. The Martello tower is the only one ever built in Australia and the last one ever constructed in the British Empire. Also known as Pinchgut, the fort took its current name from Sir William Thomas Denison, the Governor of New South Wales from 1855 to 1861. 200_2_P1040180
