Philip Larkin Statue (2010) by Martin Jennings, bronze. Hull Paragon station. The Larkin statue was commissioned on behalf of Larkin 25 by the Philip Larkin Society. The base bears the inscriptions 'That Whitsun I was late getting away' (from The Whitsun Weddings) and ' PHILIP LARKIN POET & LIBRARIAN 1922-1985'. 200_4_P1030706E

Northern Class 158 dmu 158859 makes a flying start with the 1153 departure to Doncaster. The shot is very ordinary but affords a view of part of the imposing trainshed at Hull Paragon station, a welcome sight in an age when so many stations have been, in one way or another, stripped of their character and their architectural heritage impaired or obscured. 200_4_P1030702E

To be honest, I was not quite sure how to react to this juxtaposition of signs at Hull Paragon station. The top sign is a routine station sight. The Samaritans are a key part of our safety net for those in need. The associated social and mental health issues are serious subjects but I found this a little jarring. 200_4_P1030693E

When we remember David Bowie, as we always shall, we remember too the excellent musicians with whom he performed including, of course, those in the Spiders from Mars. Two of those noted on this plaque at Hull Paragon station have passed away. 200_4_P1030687SCE
