the Covid19 bucket

My grandma lived on the third floor of an old building and used one of these to retrieve mail and other stuff without risking the treacherous stairs. We repurposed this time tried technique and have been using it to minimize close contact, in order to protect both ourselves and all the people out there who have continued to provide essential services, like postal workers and civil protection volunteers delivering our weekly allotment of masks, from the risk of contagion. The light streaming in from the window and the colorfulness got me to go for my camera and I thought the result was interesting enough to share.

This is what I find around the house these days. Jointed wooden mannequins arranged to depict judo moves (in this case, I think it is a newaza arm bar). Thanks to all who tried to puzzle it out (sorry if it was a bit too specialistic this time!) or just stopped by out of curiosity. And good job FarbFormFreude: you nailed it! I do hope it helped to take your minds off the sadness and worry for a bit. Have a nice day everyone!

another photo puzzle

Just to try and pass the time in these lockdown Sundays, here's another mystery photo for you to puzzle out. The clue is this: ever since he was a kid, my husband has been practicing a sports discipline that involves close contact. That, of course, is out of the question now that we have to practice social distancing and around the house I find signs that he has been sorely missing it. This is one of them. Can you guess what I took a picture of? If you are really good, perhaps you can also guess what is the discipline that my husband misses so much. I will post a photo that contains the answer tomorrow night.

As you probably already know, the whole of Italy is on lockdown. No traveling except for work or health reasons. Many of us now working from home. Yesterday also all non-essential shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs and patisseries were ordered to shut down. I took this shot a while ago, when I noticed a sliver of sunlight from an open window hitting some colorful knick-knacks on my cluttered shelf, but I thought it would help to visualize how it feels to be confined to our homes and looking for little things in our familiar surroundings that help us keep our hopes of seeing the end of this soon ... So, hello everyone, from locked-down Italy.
