We hiked to Grassi Lakes in 2014. The lakes are near Canmore in Banff and are an attractive hike both for the lakes themselves and their wonderful color and for the views from the trails.

The previous photos I posted were all from the Grassi Lakes trail near Canmore, Alberta. These are of the lakes. The hike is neither long nor strenuous and the lakes, though small and shallow are very beautiful and in a beautiful setting. We have hiked the trail a number of times looking for native orchids but always go all the way to the lakes and enjoy the scenery as well as the orchids.

Upper Grassi Lake is a small alpine lake above Canmore, Alberta, and a favorite hiking destination of ours both for its scenery and the native orchids we find there. This photo was taken from the trail as it continues above and beyond the lake.

After traveling through Kootenay National Park in British Columbia we ended up in Canmore, Alberta, in Banff National Park. We spent several days there hiking and exploring, but the weather was awful with heavy rain and we finally gave it up. The day this photo was taken was dry until late afternoon and we hiked to Grassi Lakes. This is Upper Grassi Lake, a popular hiking and climbing destination. This photo was taken by my wife.

This Great Horned Owl with chicks was photographed by my wife at Upper Grassi Lake near Canmore, Alberta. We had hiked there and I did not have a telephoto lens along, so she took the photo. The chicks, which we did not notice until we looked at our photos later are below her and to her left (our right).

This is another of my wife's photos and another in which she outdid me. On our recent trip to Edmonton we spent several days in the Canadian Rockies and hiked one afternoon near Canmore to Grassi Lakes. This photo was taken at the first of the lakes and was the best photo of the day in my opinion.
