A sunset from Cumbria

Whilst staying near Loweswater we were blessed one evening with this sunset.

Sunset at Marbella

28 Dec 2015 4 5 323
As the sun dips to the horizon, its time for just a bit more fishing as well as a snap from yours truly.

A tribute to Panoramio

05 Nov 2016 8 13 374
Today, Google's Panoramio has come to an end. I was a member since 2008 with over 1500 photos and 3.5+ million views but more than that, many thousands of friendly comments and shared moments, just like we see here in Ipernity. I feel bereft of a friend but fortunately via Ipernity and other photo sharing sites our friendly photo-loving community lives on. To all that followed me in Panoramio, a hearty THANK YOU.

Gone Fishing

Taken in the former Yugoslavia. From a scanned slide of my 1988 travels.

Sunset over Loch Linnhe

08 Jan 2017 8 8 529
Taken from the shores of the caravan club site at Onich near Fort William.

Evening on the Settle line.

Taken just south of Settle in the Yorkshire Dales.

A Dales Sunset

29 Mar 2017 8 9 372
As the rains of the day departs we get a smouldering sunset, at least for some minutes. As I stand here taking this, my feet are sinking ever deeper into the waterlogged field. Ah well, I hope my efforts were worth while.

Port Logan Lighthouse at sunset

29 May 2017 12 15 634
Port Logan on the 'Rhins of Galloway' in Scotland is a very sleepy seaside hamlet. One of its great worthy things to see though is its old lighthouse at the end of the old pier. The pier was part of an old harbour started in 1818 designed for ships to bring cattle over from Ireland. Now only used to shelter the odd craft.: LIGHTHOUSE TOWER: 3-stage circular tower, with open light-chamber to 3rd stage. Situated to NW of pier, incorporating and terminating parapet. Granite and sandstone ashlar. Band course between 1st and 2nd stages. Doorway to SE to ground floor chamber, with small fireplace and shelved recess. Forestair to doorway to S to 1st floor chamber; window to SW; open hatch to light chamber above (formerly accessed by ladder). Open light chamber, formed by 4 rebated square pillars carrying stone conical roof of concave profile. Latrine annexe. (http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk)

Siblyback Lake Sunset

31 Aug 2017 8 7 490
On the edge of Bodmin Moor, Cornwall. This reservoir can get quite busy during the day as it has quite a few water sport activities complete with cafe and children's playgrounds. Here we see it in the calm of early evening, just like I like it.

A Grecian sunset

18 Nov 2017 7 4 374
Leaving the harbour at Igoumenitsa in Greece we are greeted by this sunset. Enjoy

An Adriatic Sunset

18 Jan 2018 18 12 606
As seen from the Croatian town of Cavtat. On shooting this here at the front of the Hotel Croatia, all I hear is the sound of lapping water and the odd bird. A whole flotilla of these fishing boats were heading back to Cavtat and Dubrovnik after a days fishing. No bad weather was forecast and so I presume this is quite normal.

The Seine at sunset

03 Jun 2018 17 16 454
A sunset view of the mighty river Seine and the Pont de Normandie. - As I stroll along the riverbank side path, all is silent except for the odd chirp of a bird, buzz of an insect and lap of a wave. In the distance can be seen the port town of Le Havre. This scene, so majestic that so many elements vie for closer attention but here we have it in all its glory. Enjoy in full screen. See PiPs.

In the bleak midwinter

18 Feb 2021 48 48 428
Long, long ago, - as the carol goes, but this shows a nicer side of those cold days with this lovely warm sunset. Taken just 15 minutes from my home after several days of very cold freezing weather. A nice layer of new snow and light competes for attention with the tree and wall. Enjoy full screen.

Sheep shall safely graze

28 Feb 2021 31 26 306
I finish this week’s photos as I started this series of winter scenes, with another sheep photo. These sheep have not realised there is a nice pile of hay for them just a few hundred metres away. For me, the warm light glistening on the top coats as well as getting the attention of this close sheep makes the picture. The sun is to get a little lower and me a little higher on this hill before its back to a nice warm house and meal. I hope you have enjoyed this mini-series of my winters in Oldham Sheep shall safely graze music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeFqHXdXQyw Enjoy full screen.

Linton Light

04 Apr 2021 25 18 205
♫ On a Hill Far away stood an old Rugged Cross......... ♫ An appropriate landscape for this Easter Day. We are looking west on a winters day in 2006 after a walk along the Wharfdale valley in the Yorkshire Dales, dropping down to the village of Linton. Wishing you all a Happy and healthy Easter Enjoy full screen.

Sunset over Loch Achray

25 Jul 2021 18 21 143
An evening dash over ‘The Dukes Pass’ from Aberfoyle brings me to the shores of Loch Achray near Loch Katrine. Time is moving on and I have driven looking for a sunset far and long enough for this day. A pity that I was never to explore this Loch and surroundings more on this holiday as it is our last evening here. Enjoy full size.

A Balnakeil Bay sunset

07 Mar 2015 16 13 466
Balnakeil Bay in the very North West of Scotland is the setting for this glorious sunset. This was taken at 22.30 demonstrating how far North we are. Enjoy

Kyle of Durness at dusk

A splendid spot, especially when one is alone with only the sound of birds and the odd splash as a fish jumps.
