Alas. I think not before the first quarter of 2011 for the supposedly stable version. The development version is still at 2.7.1. When I switched to 2.4, I had been using 2.3 for nearly one year, with several development versions. 2.6 was released shortly too. But 2.7.1 does no provide significant enhancements, and cause new script-fu and plug-ins incompatibilities (the code is being cleaned of redundant functions, and plug-ins calling these functions have to be modified).
There was a subject in Flickr Gimp users about the question "Is Gimp still actively developed?" I think it is but they are facing great difficulties with16-bit handling, and even with modifying the interface...
