Skútustaðagígar pseudo craters were formed by gas explosions when boiling lava flowed over the wetlands. The craters are a popular site for birdwatchers and are protected as a natural wetlands conservation area.

The Skagafjörður Heritage Museum is a centre for conservation and research on local history and cultural heritage in the Skagafjörður district. It's exhibitions are located at the Minjahús (The Heritage House) in Sauðárkrókur and the Glaumbær museum grounds. The Minjahús houses a streetscape exhibition depicting "original" workshops: a carpenter's, a blacksmith's and a watchmaker's. At Glaumbær are three historical buildings, an old turf building, Áshús and Gilsstofa.
The turf building houses an exhibition depicting everyday life at a 19th century manorial estate. In Áshús there is a tea room and an exhibition depicting daily life in the early 20th century. In Gilsstofa you'll find the museum´s gift shop and information centre. The Sagas relate that Snorri Þorfinnsson, son of Þorfinnur karlsefni and Guðríður Þorbjarnardóttir farmed at Glaumbær in the 11th century. He was born in the wilds of Vinland (North America).

REYKJAVIK'S LANDMARK CHURCH
Hallgrímskirkja is the landmark Lutheran church in Reykjavík. Standing 73 meters tall, Hallgrímskirkja is the largest church in the country and is named for Hallgrímur Pétursson, author of the Passion Hymns.
The design of the church is said to be inspired by the basalt lava columns that line many areas along Iceland’s coast. Though Guðjón Samúelsson was commissioned to design the church in 1937, construction did not begin until 1945 and was not completed until 1986.
Being located on top of Skólavörðurholt, the highest point in central Reykjavík, the steeple of Hallgrímskirkja provides visitors with a stunning 360° view over Reykjavík and the surrounding area. The church is a visual landmark in the city for locals and visitors, and serves as a congregation point for revelers during the city’s raucous New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The centerpiece of the courtyard in front of Hallgrímskirkja is a large statue of Leif Eriksson, an Icelandic explorer who is believed to be the first European to land in North America, establishing a settlement at Vinland, in modern day L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland, Canada. The statue was gifted to Iceland by the United States in 1930 to mark the 1000th anniversary of Iceland’s parliament.

Borgarvirki - the Citadel is a columnar basalt fortress and a volcanic plug on Vatnsnes peninsula in northwest Iceland. It is 10-15 m high and 177 meters above sea-level. It might have been used as an old Viking fortress, at least some legends claim that it was, but we don't know this for sure.
