Kandovan is a so-called trogolodyte village in Iran, built into weathered mountain caves. It is an ancient village, with houses deep inside the caves, well inhabited, and reliant on agriculture.

This is a wonderful take on this special village, Diana. I love the expressions you caught on the donkeys and the low point of view that lets us get a sense of the "verticality" of these dwellings. Light's great too!

Lovely donkeys and an amazing place to visit. I visited Kandovan in April 2013. Unforgettable village in Northern Iran. The hotel there was just great.
