R12 Wagon

One of the main purposes of my trip was to attend the annual French Car Day held in Canberra. Although the weather had been wet, thankfully the day was cloudy but dry. It was great to catch up with some old friends while enjoying the cars.

Contrast

A current model Alpine A110 made quite a contrast with the Renault R16 (from the early 1970s) alongside. Photo taken at the Canberra French Car Day.

Car club gathering

While I was in Perth, a friend there arranged a meeting of Perth members of the Renault 4CV Register of Australia, which began with the Renault 4CV (at right) and now also encompasses all the derivatives of the 4CV - including those in the PiPs. In this photo, next left is an early (round headlight) R10, then a brightly coloured Dauphine and a blue 4CV, with an R4L completing the line.

Waiting coaches

These coaches travel on the Canberra to Sydney run. For those interested, they're run by a company called 'Murrays Coaches' and both are BCI "Cruiser" models (809 and 816) made in Australia.

4CV Muster and silos

One of the trips as part of the Renault 4CV Register's Muster gathering, was to the painted silos at Colbinabbin. If I can organise myself adequately, I'll have more images of the silos tomorrow. In the foreground is a Renault Florids, with another behind to the left, while at right is a row of Renault 4CVs. Of course, we mustn't forget the bench, so as I head for my bed late on a Sunday evening, I'll wish everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow.

Another Rochester silo

This painting of a Platypus on this Rochester silo was done by Jimmy Dvate, just behind and a few years after his earlier works there (see my previous posting). We were fortunate to be able to visit as part of the events for the National Muster of the Renault 4CV Register of Australia. Second image in the PiP. I am finalising my preparations to head away for another trip and expect I will be largely offline from now through the rest of May. With that thought, I wish you all the very best over coming weeks and a Happy Fence Friday.

Road Train #1

When you're in the 'outback' of Australia, you almost certainly will encounter 'Road Trains'. This was one of the first I captured with the camera, I'll have even larger ones later. The important point is that the roads in remote areas are narrow and these have the right of way - they use the whole road and other vehicles must pull off the side as they pass. VIPER - Road Train #2

A short while ago I posted an image of a Road Train. Here's another - and more to come later. :-) When driving in Australia's ''outback', you almost certainly will encounter 'Road Trains'.
