Australia's Barossa Valley avoided the ravages of phylloxera which decimated European vines in the late 19th century, so these old shiraz vines, at about 170 years, are among the world's oldest. Can't have a good wine without a song. :-)

Talking about shiraz, it reminds me that I have a couple of Penfolds Grange at my parent's home in Cornwall waiting for me. One is from the 1994 vintage and the other from 1999. I think the 1994 should be just about ready on my next visit home!
