More letterboxes

More letterboxes
In case my previous shot of our old letterbox seemed unusual, it's worth mentioning that rural letterboxes in Australia come in a huge diversity of styles - here are some more. I'd suggest best on black.

Explored.

Marie-claire Gallet, MiguelATF, , and 35 other people have particularly liked this photo

A fascinating collection George...well presented.
I wonder if a letterbox/mailbox is considered to be an extension of one's personality ;-)

Some can be either quite lavish or unusual - so, yes, I'd say there's an element of that.

PS: does everyone take it in turns to empty the letterboxes and deliver to their
neighbours I wonder ;-) hehehe

Not usually, Bev, but it's common if visiting friends to check their box and take in any mail. :-)

Australia's post office seems to tolerate more diversity than the USPO... ;) (Having gotten a notice to fix our mailbox in the last couple of months or Else We Won't Deliver--)

For rural boxes here, almost anything is allowed provided the slot for depositing mail is within certain height limits (so it can be reached through a vehicle window).

I love the different boxes, so creative! Here in Germany everything is normed, the EU famously even tried to norm cucumber curvature;-)

I've just seen now that you became on honourable member of the Grumpy old men's club house... so I guess that gives me the right to be grumpy here? (:-)

The scene is not bad of course and it may even have some interesting points. On my part I'd have chosen a different POV and composition: one of those letter box in foreground and the following row in a lovely diagonal.

tiabunna club has replied to Skipper
Ah yes, composition is always good ground for grumpiness and differing opinions. :-)
I suspect your shot would have been similar to this one.

I prefer the horizontal format in this case, but it's a matter of personal choice. Anyone else care to comment on this?
Skipper has replied to tiabunna club
Yes, I would have chosen this one, more or less. Actually grumpiness is not the word here, I have no motive to feel grumpy about your photo or choice. It's just that I'm a bit fed up of all those nonsensical comments one reads in this site, like "great shot" or the like. Better use the like button instead. I think it's much more interesting to know how really other people see the images we like. If we can afford that of course.
tiabunna club has replied to Skipper
Thanks for the feedback. I think you'll find similar comments on most photo sites. You've started me thinking about writing a blog article on comments/faves - I suspect different people take different approaches (I only 'favourite' if the image really appeals strongly, I don't subscribe to the facebook style 'like' as an indication only of having seen something).
Skipper has replied to tiabunna club
I agree with what you say here. I've been on several sites and the average comments are similar everywhere (the only exceptions are Trekearth - which was the first site I started to post my photos in and Photofolia which perhaps for that reason does not count many members like here). As a matter of facts I wrote an ironical article about that matter just the first days I joined this site. I wanted to see what kind of reactions I could raise with that. Now that I know the site better probably I would not write the same things again.
I'm curious to hear your views on this matter.

About the "like" button I was strongly contrary to that at the beginning. After quite a good time spent in photographic sites I understood that is the only way some people have to "assess" a photo, either because they don't know English or they are not accustomed with expressing one's feelings and impressions (or are too hasty and not willing to do it). So why not? Let them use it if they are not able to have a more meaningful relationship...
