Auckland Islands

Auckland Islands
The World Heritage listed Auckland Islands archipelago lies about 500km south of New Zealand. It is over 600sq km and is uninhabited apart from a few visiting scientists (and very occasional tourists). This was taken as we entered Port Ross, with rain showers in the distance. Earlier, as we passed Carnley Harbour further south, I took the image in the note.

Guess it was pretty cold down there. Beautiful image of such a remote area.

I love stuff like this. So far from the hustle and bustle. The sea looks surprisingly calm for so far "down"...I mean that's way under "down under"... The light is fabulous. A great nature/landscape shot, George.

Thanks, Phill. The reason it looks so calm is that we were entering Port Ross, one of several enclosed harbours on the more sheltered (eastern) side of the island.

Seeing those rays on a photo are quite breathtaking George, but to actually have been there is beyond my comprehension. I appreciate your commentary which is so helpful.

Thanks very much, Neil. Not a place I'd ever have expected to reach, so it felt quite a privilege being there.
