"Dutch Village", Craigtoun Country Park, St Andrews
Craigtoun Country Park is a country park located approximately 4 miles to the south-west of St Andrews in the county of Fife, Scotland. The site is currently owned by Fife Council, with park amenities being operated as of 2012 by the charitable organisation Friends of Craigtoun Park. The park was originally part of the Mount Melville Estate, 47 acres (19 ha) of which was purchased by Fife County Council for £25,000 in 1947. Quoted from Wikipedia

In Scotland, Jaap, this style of architecture is perceived to be Dutch. There is a mill in Scotland, Preston Mill, that is referred to as the 'Dutch Mill'. People in Scotland think it looks Dutch. I think the pantiles on this mill might be Dutch, as orange pantiles are very common in the East of Scotland. They were used as ballast on ships that were returning after delivering goods to the Netherlands. I will publish a photo of the mill soon. All the best, Joe

For me it doesn't look very Dutch.

When Dutch tourists visit Preston Mill near East Linton in East Lothian, they always say it doesn't look Dutch. I will look out a pic of the mill and post it soon.

It puzzled me as to why it was called 'Dutch Village', but it is beautiful, especially in this picture, with the stunning blue sky and reflections. Cheers, Rosa.

Thanks, Rosa, it puzzles me too. The only thing I can think of, is that many buildings in Fife have Dutch pantiles. There was a lot of trade between Fife and the Netherlands. When the ships returned, they couldn't sail empty, they needed ballast. So they used roof tiles.
